| On the down low with Lerato Mogoatle
The supremely talented Callie, who was involved in a car accident after the party, tragically passed away a week after the gig. The Pulse team sends condolences to her family. South Africa has lost another great talent too soon. My soap star deluxe is Nthathi Moshesh. The Scandal actress, one of our most gifted actresses, says she is having a ball on the show and looked relaxed in spite of the dreaded contract negotiations. In fact, she was all smiles talking about how her cousin, Mashechaba Moshoeshoe of Kaya talk, reads a book a day. "She has been reading since she was little," she said, before dashing off to join Scandal's Jenna Dover, Dawn Matthews, Litha Bam and Rhythm City's Jamie Bartlett, another amazing acting talent that's getting a raw deal from the industry's act-in-a-soap-or-be-jobless status quo.
Dorsey's double-double leads Tigers over UCF
With every move a University of Memphis player or coach makes, from now until this white-hot spotlight of a No. 1 ranking shines on some other corner of the college basketball universe, scrutiny does not follow far behind. It is the inescapable, inconvenient reality of having a team so talented; a daily struggle to achieve the perfection their record and their national profile demands. For the first time this season, that perfection was challenged in a way nobody around the program saw coming. Robert Dozier, always thought of as the most solid citizen in the Tigers' locker room, was suspended for breaking the team's curfew, proving again how fragile reputations can be when the stakes are this high. .
First submarine car to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show
Geneva - A car that can be driven underwater is set to be unveiled next month at the International Geneva Motor Show, the Swiss manufacturer of the prototype announced on Friday. The 'Squba' is like something out of a James Bond film and, according to the manufacturer Rinspeed, is the world's first real submersible car. Rinspeed's head, Frank Rinderknecht, is a James Bond enthusiast who has dreamed of making the amphibious vehicle come true. "For three decades I have tried to imagine how it might be possible to build a car that can fly under water," said Rinderknecht in a statement. "Now we have made this dream come true." The convertible sports car transforms into an underwater vehicle in which passengers breathe with the help of compressed air masks.
Undercover Op Leads To Cell Phone-Triggered Bomb
San Jose and Santa Clara police chiefs announced Wednesday the results of a massive sting operation in their cities. Operation Meltdown, as the joint effort was called, netted investigators hundreds of criminals, tons of stolen copper, dozens of stolen cars and weapons, and in one case, homemade bombs. A Fremont man was arrested in October as part of Operation Meltdown. He is accused of trying to sell the officers improvised explosive devices capable of being denoted remotely by a cell phone. During a news conference at San Jose Police headquarters Wednesday morning, police showed a video, recorded by hidden camera, of the suspect demonstrating the technology to officers by detonating a bomb for them. Open-wheel unity creates Rahal rivalry
The news that the Indy Racing League and Champ Car agreed in principle late yesterday to unify for the upcoming season closed a 12-year wound in open-wheel racing, and it immediately started a family feud. It means that Bobby Rahal, co-owner of Hilliard-based Rahal Letterman Racing of the IRL, now will watch his team go against his son Graham, 19, who drives for Champ Car's four-time reigning champion, the Newman-Haas-Lanigan team. "Let's put it this way: It could be tough for me," Bobby Rahal said, laughing. "You don't want to beat your son, but then again, you want your team to do well and win. … But at least one thing nice for me is I will get to see him race every weekend." The elder Rahal said he's just glad to see the 12-year schism in the rearview mirror.
Double delight for Totti keeps Roma in title hunt
Returning Roma talisman Francesco Totti scored a brace to earn the capital-based club a 2-0 win over Sampdoria at the Stadio Olimpico Saturday and keep his side in the Serie A title chase. Second place Roma closed the gap on leader Inter Milan to just four points. Totti was making his second injury comeback of the season having missed last week's disappointing 0-0 draw at Torino and he proved he was back to his best with a crucial double, the first a cute finish from the penalty spot. "I wanted to finish 2007 in a big way. I'm happy and I want to thank my teammates who let me take the penalty and set me up at the end," he told Sky Sport. "It was difficult spending two months on the sidelines because I was playing really well before that," added Totti. "The championship? It's a marathon; we won't make the same mistakes as last year when we finished 20 points back (from Inter).
Huckabee wins W.Va. GOP convention
Buddy Roemer, McCain's representative at the event, then conceded defeat and asked McCain boosters to support Huckabee on the second ballot in order to block Romney. "The truth is, John didn't win, and John wants a strong organization," Roemer said. McCain is seen as the national Republican front-runner, and Romney as his strongest competition. Romney, Huckabee and Paul attended the West Virginia convention, held at the Charleston Civic Center. The West Virginia GOP held the convention in an attempt to become more relevant in the selection of the Republican presidential candidate. Twelve of the state's 30 delegates to the national Republican convention will still be selected in the traditional May primary, when the presidential candidates for each party are usually already decided.
