Alex Zanardi Races Without Legs

Most of us can't even imagine what happened to 2-time CART racing champion Alex Zanardi in September 2001. There he was at a new racetrack, the EuroSpeedway Lausitz oval, at CART's first-ever race in Germany, doing his job, when suddenly his life changed forever. Leading the race, with only 13 laps to go, he exited the pit lane to return to the fray, his car spun sideways on cold tires, and was hit at 180 mph by another car and literally sliced in two.

Fortunately, he survived the wreck. Unfortunately, the accident took both of his legs above the knees--a catastrophic fate for a race driver. Zanardi, and the rest of the racing world, thought he would never drive again.

It was then that Zanardi's champion spirit came through. With great humor and determination, he went through the painful, arduous process of rebuilding his body and his life.

Yahoo partisans go online with buyout opinions

From his bedroom in Naples, Fla., Yahoo shareholder Eric Jackson stares into the camera and calls on fellow investors to join his campaign to push Yahoo Inc. to accept Microsoft Corp.'s $44.6 billion unsolicited takeover bid.

"We do not have to sit back as shareholders and wait for whatever plays out," he says in his video, called "Yahoo Shareholders in Favor of Selling," which has generated more than 700 views on YouTube.

Jackson's clip is among dozens posted on the video-sharing site by Yahoo shareholders and netizens who refuse to let the multibillion-dollar deal play out in secret board meetings and negotiations.

While corporate officials try to win over large shareholders, everyone from loyal customers to frustrated shareholders to the corporations themselves are chiming in on blogs, podcasts, Facebook and just about every channel the new media has to offer in hopes of swaying the decision-makers.

Warren board awards $55.1 million bid for middle, high school

The Warren County Board of Education awarded the construction bid for the new Joseph Warren Middle and High School to Lexington-based D.W. Wilburn. The timetable for completing the school at Rich Pond and Nashville roads is now August 2010.The board unanimously approved the base bid of $55.1 million.Kenny Stanfield of Sherman-Carter-Barnhart, the architectural firm whose plans call for the two schools to be housed in one large building, said he knows the school system is used to having a half-dozen bidders, but only two contractors are able to handle projects this large. The only other bid - for $60.9 million - came from Hardaway Construction in Nashville. When comparing the two, Wilburn's bid came in lower, and "they're ready to get started," Stanfield said. The project was originally estimated to cost about $50 million."This bid is actually the second lowest of the last six projects we've done since 2006," said Chairwoman Teresa Lowe.

MTB News & Racing Round-up

UCI World ranked downhillers, Tracey Hannah and Nathan Rennie proved too tough to beat in the second round of the downhill. Hannah, currently ranked third in the world, dominated the women's field and rode a respectable 3' 49.33". The 19 year-old beat second place Emma McNaughton by a massive 34 seconds over the 2.3 km course. Claire Whiteman, series leader, finished third.

"I love racing the local Australian races," said Hannah. "There is so much support."

World ranked number seven man and local Nathan Rennie left nothing to chance when he barreled down the Illinbah course in record time of 3' 13.74". He took a full six seconds off another professional rider Bryn Atkinson. Amiel Cavalier finished third.

"I've had a perfect run just one little falter," Rennie explained.

Motorola RAZR maxx V6 Ferrari Review

Motorola, better known as the inventor of the RAZR design, seems to be running out of ideas when it comes to building a new face for its handsets. Even if people are still buying RAZR-like phones, perhaps Motorola should start to give a chance to its other exceptionally good models like Z6 or Z8. I'm not saying this because I don't like the RAZR look, but even 'love' can turn to 'hate' if it's too much. Now, back to our Motorola RAZR maxx V6 Ferrari, there has been an increasing trend in the mobile industry that made handset manufacturers join forces with brands that have nothing to do with mobile phones. LG and Prada, Motorola and D&G, Samsung and Bang & Olufsen and many more partnerships have been made either for marketing reasons or simply to improve a handset's functionality (yeah right).
