Lotus Cortina

Extremely Cool Lotus Cortina

Ford's 1960s profile-raising competition program included recruiting Lotus boss Colin Chapman to give the new Cortina a sporting makeover. Chapman's brief was to develop a Group 2 competition version; Lotus would then build the 1,000 cars required for homologation.

Launched in 1963, the Lotus Cortina featured the Elan's Ford-based, DOHC, 1.6-liter engine in the two-door bodyshell. Lotus Cortinas dominated saloon racing's 2-liter class, often challenging for outright honors. Works cars were driven by Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Peter Arundell, and Jackie Ickx, while Sir John Whitmore, driving an Alan Mann-entered Lotus Cortina, was European Touring Car champion in 1965.

The Lotus Cortina offered here is one of the original Works racing saloons campaigned during the mid-1960s by legendary Formula One World Champion Jim Clark, while touring car champions Sir John Whitmore and Jack Sears also competed in this same car.

Five reasons why Fernando Alonso and McLaren need to make up, and fast

The main thing is results, so long, that is, that the tension does not spill over into hot-headedness on the track. Proponents of this theory point out that, bad as the relationship between Alonso and Hamilton has been, it is nothing like the visceral hatred that developed between two of their predecessors at McLaren, Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna.

Reconciliation

Perhaps the crux of the matter is whether or not reconciliation between Alonso and McLaren is possible. Among those with whom he would have to mend fences would be his own mechanics and race engineers, Hamilton, his teammate, and Dennis and other senior managers. Dennis himself is good at reconciliation but how likely is it that even a thoroughgoing "love-in" behind closed doors at Woking could repair the damage done this season? Hamilton has already said he would prefer it if Alonso leaves and even Dennis has made it clear there is a long way to go to rebuild a sense of trust in the team.

Leafs turn to Fletcher

Forget about 2008. Forget about 2009. If the Leafs ever expect to win the Cup again they will need one or two young stars to build the team around. They need a long term plan. Sadly, the team's ownership has not demonstrated a desire to win a the Cup for a long time. Posted 22/01/08 at 10:33 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment .
